Job Title: State Director
Primary Purpose
The State Director serves as the primary representative of the Rhode Island Society of CPAs (RISCPA) responsible for advancing the organization’s mission and implementing its strategic goals and objectives at the state level. The State Director strengthens local member engagement, advocacy, and workforce development while ensuring alignment with regional strategy and priorities.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Plan Implementation
● Execute RISCPA’s strategic goals and objectives at the state level.
● Partner with leadership to identify priorities, resource needs, and emerging opportunities.
● Track and report progress toward key performance indicators (KPIs) tied to the Society’s strategic plan.
2. Advocacy & Government Relations
● Promote state-level advocacy and relationship-building with policymakers, regulators, and business organizations.
● Coordinate with leaders within New England to advance legislative and regulatory priorities that matter in Rhode Island.
● Elevate awareness of the CPA profession and the Society’s impact among public officials and business leaders.
3. Member Engagement, Recruitment & Retention
● Develop and implement strategies to grow membership and enhance member value.
● Maintain strong relationships with firms, companies, and individual members across the state.
● Identify opportunities to increase engagement through programming, communications, and volunteer leadership.
4. Workforce & Pipeline Development
● Expand workforce development initiatives, including partnerships with high schools, colleges, and employers.
● Promote programs that build the CPA pipeline and align with the RISCPA’s regional talent strategy.
● Collaborate with academic partners and employers to address emerging skills and workforce trends.
5. Communication & Market Intelligence
● Serve as the local voice and connection between members and regional organizations.
● Gather and share member insights, industry trends, and local market intelligence to inform strategic decision-making.
● Partner with the communications team to ensure consistent and impactful messaging.
6. Qualifications
● Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, public policy, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
● Minimum 7–10 years of experience in association management, public affairs, or professional services.
● Strong understanding of the CPA profession, business environment, and state-level policy landscape.
● Proven ability to build and sustain high-impact relationships across diverse stakeholders.
● Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills.
● Ability to think strategically, work collaboratively, and execute effectively in a regional organization.

Position Overview
BVCAP is seeking an experienced Finance Director & CFO to provide strategic leadership and oversee all financial and HR functions of the organization. This position plays a critical role in ensuring fiscal responsibility, transparency, and long-term sustainability while supporting BVCAP’s mission.
The Finance Director/CFO serves as a senior leader, advising the President/CEO and collaborating with internal and external partners to strengthen financial systems, improve efficiencies, and support organizational growth.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Strategy & Leadership
- Serve on the senior leadership team, providing strategic financial guidance.
- Develop long-term financial strategies aligned with BVCAP’s mission.
- Analyze financial performance, identify trends, and recommend improvements.
- Advise the President/CEO on financial implications of organizational decisions.
Financial Management & Operations
- Oversee all day-to-day accounting functions, including general ledger, A/P, A/R, and payroll.
- Lead the annual budgeting process and manage financial forecasting.
- Manage cash flow, investments, and banking relationships.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP standards and maintain accurate financial records.
- Collaborate with external accountants, especially during year-end.
Grant Management
- Oversee budgeting, reporting, drawdowns, and compliance for all grants.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting to federal, state, and private funders.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Lead the annual audit and IRS Form 990 preparation.
- Maintain internal controls and ensure adherence to financial regulations.
- Prepare all required monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting.
- Maintain organized accounting and HR files.
Board & Stakeholder Relations
- Present financial reports to committees and stakeholders in clear, accessible terms.
- Maintain strong relationships with auditors, banks, and community partners.
- Support development staff on fundraising and grant-related financial needs.
Human Resources & Payroll
- Oversee weekly payroll operations.
- Manage HR functions in coordination with an external HR consultant.
Team Leadership
- Supervise and mentor a finance and payroll team of 3+ staff.
- Strengthen fiscal capacity across the organization.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required; Master’s/MBA or CPA preferred.
- 5+ years of accounting experience.
- 3+ years of management experience.
- Experience managing grants and nonprofit financial operations highly preferred.
- Strong proficiency in GAAP, bookkeeping, and Excel.
- Experience with accounting software and payroll systems required.

Rhode Island Foundation - Accounting Manager

The Accounting Manager works closely with and receives direction from the Director of Finance and Administration. Key responsibilities include: General Accounting & Oversight Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts Oversee and manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, and bank reconciliations functions, including supervising staff that perform these functions Ensure timely and accurate posting of journal entries and general ledger maintenance Ensure timely month-end and year-end close processes Perform impact investing portfolio accounting functions Back-up for reconciliation of investment reporting and related activities Financial Reporting, Audit, & Tax Prepare accurate financial reporting for internal and external stakeholders Assist with annual financial statement audit and liaise with external auditors Oversee grant-specific and program-specific financial reporting and administration Oversee the annual IRS tax return filing requirements of the Foundation, including preparation of supporting workpapers, managing the workflow with the Foundation’s tax advisors, and ensuring accurate and timely filings Compliance & Controls Ensure adherence to GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards Maintain internal controls and recommend process improvements Support implementation of financial policies and procedures Systems & Process Improvement Assist with maintenance of accounting systems Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and improve reporting accuracy Provide support with managing the development, implementation, documentation, and continuous updating and improvement of process workflows The ideal candidate should have a bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration with concentration in accounting; CPA is desirable. Additional requirements include: a minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in nonprofit or foundation settings, and a strong working knowledge and experience of accounting, budgeting, GAAP and cost control principles. The ideal candidate should also have experience with automated financial and accounting reporting systems, experience analyzing financial data and preparing financial statements, and proficiency in Word and Excel. Non-profit experience is strongly desirable. A prospective candidate must also have a proven ability to supervise staff and manage workflows, demonstrate strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills across departments, and embrace a collaborative work culture. Additionally, the applicant should have the ability to prioritize, create their own work plan, creatively solve problems, and exercise good judgment. The candidate must also be flexible with the ability to adjust activities and priorities and take on new responsibilities.
