Business Value (BV) Committee
Committee Chair: John Barrett firstname.lastname@example.org
The Business Value (BV) Committee is having a busy start to fall as a discussion forum and CPE classes are all on the agenda. The BV Committee was instrumental in putting on a discussion forum on September 6 that focused on changes underway for the Accredited in Business Valuation credential. The ABV & Non-CPAs Forum revolved around a recent decision by the AICPA to allow non-CPAs or other qualified professionals to obtain the Accredited in Business Valuation credential going forward. Many professionals with ABV credentials have voiced concern about the change and some local BV professionals signed onto an Open Letter to the AICPA expressing their opposition to the decision. Leading the RISCPA Forum to speak about the opposition to the change was BV Committee Chair John Barrett. Giving perspective from the AICPA was DiSantoPriest Partner William Pirrolli, who also serves on the AICPA Board of Directors. Greg Porcaro and Kevin Papa of the BV Committee also led elements of the discussion.
John Barrett commented following the forum.“We had a good discussion today, it’s an important topic for us,” John said. “But in terms of the larger issue, I remain very disappointed in the way the AICPA did this, in the process that was conducted to make this change.”

The Women’s Council is busy planning for its second roundtable event of the year. The Fall Roundtable, scheduled on November 8, will present Negotiating for Success. The keynote speaker will be Ned McCrory, Managing Partner at Batchelor, Frechette, McCrory, Michael & Co., (BFMM) and Discussion Leaders will include Justin McAloon, Senior Executive Recruiter at Randstad Recruiting and Staffing, who will lead on the topic of “Negotiating for Yourself”, and Attorney Diana Ducharme, of Cervenka Green Ducharme Antonelli, who will lead on “Negotiating with Clients”. Women’s Council Co-Chair Kerri Rawcliffe says the topic will resonate with those planning to attend.
“Negotiating, whether for yourself in your career, or with a client, can be a dreadful situation for many people. However, if done correctly, the process can be less intimidating with a better chance of obtaining your professional goals,” says Kerri. “After reviewing past surveys from other events, we found this to be an important topic, so we hope the event offers attendees with important tips that they can take with them to advance both personally and professionally.” Co-Chair Jacquelyn Tracy adds:“Every day we do some sort of negotiating. Learning effective tips and the reasons why we need to negotiate, can help us in negotiating with clients and for negotiating on our own behalf.”
The event runs from 2:00pm-5:30pm at RI Society offices, and event details and registration can be found at www.riscpa.org. Anyone wishing more information on the Women’s Council should contact Jacquelyn Tracy or Kerri Rawcliffe.
