The RI Society of CPAs held its Annual Meeting and Recognition Reception in Providence on April 24 to formally recognize new leadership to its Board of Directors, present awards in multiple categories and host a networking reception for its membership. Award certificates were presented to newly certified CPAs from across the state; professionals drawn from various fields who completed the Society’s first ever Emerging Leaders Network (ELN) class; and recipients of the Certified Sustainable Value Professional (CSVP) designation, tied to the growing international field of sustainable value metrics in accounting. The evening also featured the awarding of scholarship funds to 5 students who are attaining honor level grades in finance and accounting programs at colleges and universities across southern New England. David J. Lucier, CPA, CGMA, took the reins as Chair for the 2018-19 term. David, who is Owner and President of Lucier CPA, Inc. in Johnston, has built a reputation as a dedicated and energetic advocate for small businesses and women business owners, as well as serving as a leading statewide mentor and educator to accountants and small business owners across a wide range of industry sectors. RI Society President Robert Mancini says the Society if very fortunate to have Dave Lucier assume the role as Board Chair.
“Dave’s dedication to the CPA profession and small business owners across a range of industries, advocacy skills and leadership abilities will make him a terrific Chair for our Board and important voice for our entire membership,” Mancini says. “We are thrilled to see Dave launch his tenure as Board Chair for RISCPA.”
A message was read from outgoing Board Chair Barbara Perino, who was unable to be in attendance, but stated she was proud to have served within such a talented network of professionals on the RISCPA Board and sent her congratulations to the young new professionals and scholarship students receiving certificates.
Three individuals joined the Board as new members. They include:

The Nicholas Picchione Award was presented to newly certified CPA Michael Stewart, who attained the highest scores on all parts of the CPA exam. Michael, who attained both undergraduate and graduate degrees from Bryant University, now works as a tax associate at KLR, Providence.
