Pays to Know Your Profession

When the RI Society needs a seasoned, highly regarded figure to make a presentation that not only informs but inspires members on any number of topics related to the profession, we are extremely fortunate to have to look no further than DiSanto Priest & Co. Partner William A. Pirolli to be the guy. Bill, whose considerable skills and talents across an impressive range of specialty areas make him a prominent speaker on the national stage, recently gave colleagues right here at home a dynamic presentation on The State of the Profession as a keynote speaker for the RI Society’s September 27 Membership Day held at the Marriott Hotel in Providence. Globalization and its impact was a central theme. “The world and our profession are seeing exponential change,” Bill says. “The profession needs to be proactive in continuing to attract the best and the brightest and embracing the coming changes.”

His lengthy and impressive record of service in both civic and professional posts includes currently serving on the Board of Directors of the AICPA, and he says the pace of the profession’s globalization has accelerated dramatically since his Board tenure began in 2015. “What has changed since I was appointed to the Board is our new Association with CIMA and the formation of the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants to which I am also appointed,” Bill explains. “We are now an international organization with over 600,000 members from 179 countries with 33 offices around the globe.”

He adds that discussions at the recently held annual meeting of the Council of the AICPA in San Antonio focused on changes and challenges facing the profession. “The theme for the meeting in San Antonio, and in fact the one prior to that as well, was Accounting in Extraordinary Times,” says Bill. “We spend a lot of time talking about the speed of change around us and how the profession will evolve to meet those changes.”

Bill, who is a past Board Chair of the RI Society, is a partner in the multi-disciplinary accounting and financial services organization, The Bentley Group, comprised of DiSanto Priest & Co., Bentley Wealth Management, Bentley Consulting Group and the Bentley Charitable Foundation. The Bentley Group provides leading edge accounting, business advisory, technology, financial planning and wealth management services to a diverse client group.
