New Overtime Rule Makes Life Difficult for Small Businesses and Startups
Business groups around the country are crying foul over a new policy announced by the U.S. Department of Labor to make overtime pay mandatory for millions of new U.S. workers. Those earning up to $47,476 annually would now be eligible for the mandatory OT pay, doubling the threshold from the current $23,660 level. Business leaders say it will hurt small employers, be especially devastating to startups, and likely won’t produce added pay anyway because businesses will either severely restrict OT or be forced to reduce salary base pay overall.
